Durian D99 is a Thai variety, brought to Vinh Long in 1996. The rice color is pretty, sweet, and less prone to smudging. D99 has touched many hearts of durian lovers. However, it still belongs to the imported variety, so it is often used to cross-breed into other varieties.

- It is a medium-sized, low-branching tree with a sparse canopy, bearing once every two years.
- This variety is an early planter and is tolerant of Phytophthora as well as arid environments. Good resistance to purulent diseases.
- Natural ripening time 120 days
- Having early fruit, an average of 3 years is a harvest.
- Average yield: 10-15 year old trees give 100-130 fruits/season
- Average weight 1 – 1.5kg. Yellowish brown, light green with dense, long spines, re-growing at the tips
- Fruit usually bell-shaped to lychee, sometimes round, slightly concave at the apex, lobed with well-defined grooves.
- Bark greenish yellowish brown, spines small, short, tight, thin bark.
- The fruit stalk is moderately long and thick
- The flesh is very thick, creamy, sweet, fatty, firm and has a saffron color. Strong sweet taste, very fatty, attractive aroma
- Seeds are small, less flat.
- The seeds of this variety make a very good rootstock.
- This variety is a good pollinator clone for other varieties
- In 1996, this variety was introduced to Vietnam and first planted in Vinh Long.
